Sculptra Sculptra® material is designed to restore facial volume in areas where the skin is thin because of underlying loss of fat. In the past few years, many dermatologists and plastic surgeons have used Sculptra to treat healthy individuals for loss of facial volume. Sculptra has been widely used for many years in surgical products. Sculptra is not made from human or animal sources and does not require a skin test. Sculptra is composed of a synthetic biocompatible material that does not harm the body. Sculptra is also biodegradable, which means that it is broken down by the body. One medical study showed that Sculptra’s effects can last up to two years after the first treatment session. How does Sculptra work? Several weeks after the dermatologist injects Sculptra into areas of fat loss, the skin begins to thicken. Sculptra does not change the skin directly; instead it causes the skin to change itself and become thicker, resulting in an improved appearance for those who have volume loss in the face. What can patients expect during treatment? Injections of Sculptra are somewhat similar to collagen or restylane in terms of pain. After Dr. Rosenbach marks the target areas, treatments take under 20 minutes. Optimal results take two to four treatment sessions. What can patients expect after treatment? Tissue volume in the treated areas will gradually build up over the weeks and months following each injection session, as the skin produces new collagen. When you return for your next session, Dr. Rosenbach will assess your response to the previous treatment. Additional treatments will be performed if needed and agreed upon to optimize your correction. Note: The information above is just a summary and not intended to be a complete description of the effectiveness and safety issues regarding Scupltra treatment. Dr. Rosenbach will elaborate during an office visit. The informed consent form provides considerable detail beyond the scope of this web page. |
